All Souls Day: A Tribute to the Faithful Departed

While some are looking forward to celebrating Halloween, others are already busy cleaning up the cemeteries. For most catholic Filipinos, November is the month of remembering all the beloved faithful departed.

In the Philippines, a yearly special non-working holiday is especially dedicated in honor of the dead. Some even travel miles just to get home in time for All Souls Day. All Souls Day has somehow become a celebration, a special gathering, and a reunion of families, relatives, and friends in cemeteries where their dearly departed ones are buried. People offer prayers, bring flowers, and light candles as they are part of the whole tradition during this special occasion. Often, it turns out to be a festivity rather than a solemn celebration. People eat, laugh, and reminisce the old times.

Once a year, every November 1st or the 2nd, my family and I visit our close relatives in their graveyards. However, for the past 2 years, I haven’t stayed too long in the cemetery ever since my mother and two sisters left the country and are now permanently settled in the US. But I guess this year, after I take a short visit in my great grandmother‘s tomb, I’d probably be staying a bit longer in my father’s graveyard. It’s my first visit to his tomb for this year’s All Souls Day since he just died few months ago.

Unfortunately, when my father died last July due to a freak accident, my mother and two sisters were not able to personally witness my father’s burial ceremony since they can’t just simply pack their bags and go home to the Philippines. It’s also unfortunate that they won’t be able to visit him this coming All Souls Day, but I am here anyway to pay homage to his grave site.

John Lloyd Cruz and Shaina Magdayao finally sat down together in an exclusive interview with TV host Boy Abunda to clear up some rumors which stirred a lot of speculations lately all over the media.

According to Boy Abunda, originally, it was only Shaina who was supposed to do the interview but John Lloyd also wanted to express his side of the story.

When Boy Abunda asked the two if Ruffa Gutierez was the reason behind why their relationship is ‘on the rocks’, John Lloyd and Shaina immediately dismissed the speculation and said that Ruffa has nothing to do with whatever problems they have as of the moment as far as their relationship is concerned.

When Boy Abunda asked the question about Ruffa’s involvement in the issue, Shaina laughed saying, “Tito Boy, hindi po.”

Boy also asked if there was any truth about her text message to Ruffa, Shaina quickly revealed that she indeed sent Ruffa a text message saying, ‘leave us alone’. According to Shaina, she said those words because Ruffa sent John Lloyd a text message right after they left the party, and those were the exact words she wanted to say to Ruffa said Shaina.

What else will Shaina Magdayao and John Lloyd Cruz reveal in this interview? The full exclusive interview will be aired this coming Sunday at The Buzz.

Christian Bautista

The release of Christian Bautista’s newest international album ‘Outbound’ under Universal Records was recently launched.

The said album showcased a different musical style, which sounded more upbeat and groovy–a little bit different from Christian Bautista’s previous albums with songs that were mostly ballads.

Parang we wanna showcase another side of me. First, maging current and contemporary. At the same time, medyo co-writer noong song na ‘All That’s Left.’ It’s exciting,” Christian gladly shared during the album launch.

The album’s carrier single ‘All that’s Left’ was the brainchild of Tat Tong, a producer, song writer, and arranger, whom Christian had closely worked with in conceptualizing the said album.

Aside from Tat Tong, Christian also collaborated with other music producers and international artists from the United States, Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Indonesia like  the K-Pop R&B trio One Way for “Wrong Number;” Jim Brickman for “Never Far Away;” Indonesian songwriter Satrio for “I’m Already King;” and Japan’s Baby M for “Sakura.”

Meanwhile, Christian gave credits to his experiences in The Kitchen Musical where he played Daniel, a sous chef in a restaurant. It was through The Kitchen Musical where Christian got the chance to showcase his dancing skills.

In his music video of ‘All That’s Left’, he displayed some choreographed dance moves. According to the singer, it was through The Kitchen Musical that he was able to improve his dancing skills.

John Lloyd

The man behind the Shaina-Ruffa rumored bad blood had finally spoken in a short interview with an ABS-CBN reporter after his ABS-CBN contract signing yesterday afternoon, October 24.

It was rumored that John and other ex-gfs Liz Uy and Ruffa Gutierez had some ‘chit-chats’ during Bea Alonzo’s birthday party last October 8, which caused Shaina to get jelous. John Lloyd, on the other hand, cleared Ruffa’s name as the cause of their ‘not-so stable’ relationship.

John was quick to response saying , “Ako na mismo ang nagsasabi, walang kinalaman si Ruffa o kahit na sinong ex-girlfriend ko.”

He also cleared any issues that he had spoken with Ruffa during Bea’s birthday. He also told the reporter that it was former gf Liz Uy whom he had spoken to since they shared the same table with Liz Uy along with other ABS-CBN executives.

“Actually, si Ruffa ni hindi ako nakapag-hi sa kanya e. Si Liz, kami ni Liz ang tagal naming nagkwentuhan. Kasama namin sa table sila Maam Charo Santos-Concio, Sir Gabby Lopez, Shaina was also there. Walang problema e, binibigyan lang ng kulay ng iba,” John told the reporter.

With regards to his relationship with Shaina, John Lloyd admittedly said, “To be honest, hindi maayos yung mga bagay-bagay ngayon.”

Yun lang ang kaya ko sabihin ngayon. Yung mga bagay na yun eh medyo not looking good.”

“…I’d rather na tumahimik muna ako hanggang sa sana maayos namin or mabigyan ng closure kung ano man. Sa kung paano siya matatapos or maayos, of course, hindi ko alam. I can only hope for the best, hindi lang para sa sarili ko, para sa aming dalawa.”

What could really be the reason behind all these issues involving Ruffa, Shaina, and the man caught in the middle, John Lloyd, that have sparked the curiosity of many? As of now, concerned individuals are still mum on the issue.

Ruffa Gutierez: “It was not very nice and it was not very kind”

Ruffa Gutierez and Shaina Magdayao

In an October 23 episode of TV5’s ‘Paparazzi’, Ruffa addressed the issue about her recent tweets which sparked curiosity among her followers.

Ruffa Gutierez, in her twitter account, she voiced out saying, “My gosh panahon pa ni Magsaysay…huwag ka namang mainsecure! There’s nothing I can do if my legs are longer than yours. Hellow!”

“No cure for the INSECURE! Kalurks ka girl!!! Seriously. Be real! That was so nineteen kopong kopong! I shouldve stayed home & slept.”

During that Paparazzi Sunday episode, co-host Zoren Legaspi asked Ruffa who she was referring to when she posted those controversial tweets in her twitter account. Zoren also said that he received some text messages from people asking him about Ruffa’s tweets and if he could name the person behind Ruffa’s strong words, which obviously was pointing to someone.

When all other co-hosts tried to squeeze out from Ruffa some information regarding the said controversial tweets, Ruffa finally shed light on the issue saying that John Lloyd sent her an apologetic message via text.

“I guess may mga things nangyari na hindi ko rin alam because I was just there as a guest so I didn’t know… I know that they were there; I was also in another part of the room with my mom and my dad.”

“I didn’t greet him, he didn’t greet me. But there were things that were happening pala between them na hindi ko alam,” Ruffa said.

When Ruffa was asked if there was truth behind the nasty text messages she told other co-hosts,

“I don’t wanna say kung ano ‘yung mga messages na ‘yon pero it was not very nice and it was not very kind. So bilang ayokong patulan, ang pinsan ko na galing sa States ang sumagot and said, ‘Please stop texting.’”

“The reason why I’m saying this now is because para ma-klaro sa lahat ng tao na, you know, pumunta ‘ko do’n bilang bisita ni Vina and I did my own thing [and] they did their own thing. So kung may gulo man na nangyari doon, wala akong kaalam-alam. I was totally clueless until I got the messages,” Ruffa told Paparazzi co-hosts.

What does Shaina Magdayao has to say on this issue? Is Ruffa the main reason of the rumored break up between John Lloyd and Shaina?
